Introduction to Earlobe Repair
After years of wearing heavy earrings, holes can stretch and look deformed.
A piercing hole may no longer suit your cosmetic or functional needs due to elongation that occurs over time. In some cases, earlobes may permanently stretch, tear, or split under the weight of heavy or oversized earrings.
RL Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa can repair the hole by simply stitching an elongated earring hole or a torn earlobe to total reconstruction.
Treatment overview
The type and extent of damage will determine the exact method used to repair a damaged earlobe.
In some cases, the skin around the damaged hole is removed and then the hole is stitched closed. In other cases, Dr. Lu may need to create a small flap that restructures the natural shape of the earlobe.
Gauge repair, depending on the size of the gauge used to stretch the earlobe, can be more involved. The surgery involves closing the hole of a piercing or gauge. Sutures are removed in 7-10 days following surgery. The earlobe may be re-pierced in 6-8 weeks, but will need to be pierced away from the previous hole. Gauge repair is approached with different techniques. Essentially, the surgeon must reconstruct the entire earlobe.
The surgery involves the removal of any scar tissue and the creation of the flap of tissue to support ran earring. Sutures are removed 7-10 days following surgery.

How it Works
The Consultation
At RL Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, each initial patient consultation is different.
Depending on your needs, desired treatments, areas of concern, and simply who you are as a patient, we will schedule you with an actual treatment provider to discuss your goals, budget, and more. During this appointment, we will go through before & after photos, your medical history, and any questions you might have. Only then can we make a recommendation for which procedures or treatments may be right for you and why. We will be sure to educate you on how the treatments work, including what to expect during and afterward.
The Recovery
The recovery is simple. Most patients can shower one to two days after the surgery.
Occasionally, there is some swelling or bruising of the earlobe that can last for a few days. You may need to apply an antibiotic ointment on the earlobe daily to aid healing. Most patients do not need pain medication, but you may take over-the-counter medications if you experience light pain or discomfort. Keep area dry and intact for 12 hours.
For the first 48 hours please avoid any kind of straining. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 2 to 3 weeks, especially contact sports in which your ear could be bumped. After that gradually increase your activities so you are back to normal by the end of the fourth week.
