Treatment overview
PDO threads are a minimally-invasive alternative to more aggressive procedures, such as a facelift.
A PDO thread lift can subtly elevate your facial features to reduce fine wrinkles and fine lines, while encouraging new collagen production for increased facial volume in treated areas. PDO threads come in various textures for personalized treatments.
PDO, which stands for polydioxanone, is an absorbable polymer thread lift that’s inserted into the skin. Once inserted, the skin will repair itself and PDO thread placement will stimulate collagen.
That collagen will help regenerate the skin and begin a healing process that holds the new contour created by the threads. The threads will then eventually dissolve into the body, after which the skin will remain smooth and tight.

How it Works
The Consultation
At RL Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, each initial patient consultation is different.
Depending on your needs, desired treatments, areas of concern, and simply who you are as a patient, we will schedule you with an actual treatment provider to discuss your goals, budget, and more. During this appointment, we will go through before & after photos, your medical history, and any questions you might have. Only then can we make a recommendation for which procedures or treatments may be right for you and why. We will be sure to educate you on how the treatments work, including what to expect during and afterward.
A typical consultation lasts about 40 minutes and is free of charge for all aesthetic treatments, including PDO Threads. At the end of your consultation, you will leave our office in Vernon Hills with a thorough, personalized treatment plan. And when you’re ready, we’ll schedule your first treatment session.
Your PDO Thread Procedure
As with any procedure, we will ensure your total comfort during your PDO Thread treatment in a clean, comfortable, and private treatment room at our Vernon Hills office.
Overall, the treatment is quick, with most sessions lasting about 30 minutes.
Your provider will begin by administering a topical or local anesthetic to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the process. We then carefully and safely inject precise locations with the PDO threads to tighten and lift the skin, giving you a lifted and more youthful appearance. The type and number of threads we use will depend on your own specific goals and desires. Once complete, you’re free to leave the office and resume normal activities.
The Recovery
After your PDO Thread treatment, some bruising and swelling is common at the injection sites for the first few days.
Ice packs or cold compresses, applied 20 minutes on then 20 minutes off, will help with swelling. If you experience any pain, taking acetaminophen is recommended.
Additionally, we also ask that you keep exaggerated facial movements, like laughing, smiling, and extensive talking, to a minimum for the first few days of your recovery.
