One body area often overlooked when thinking about cosmetic surgery are the thighs. While many patients focus on leg strength and muscle toning of the legs, there are also surgical options that can help remove excess skin and fat of the thighs. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the thigh.
There are two types of thigh lift procedures: in a limited incision medial thigh lift, the scar runs across the groin crease and the upper portion of the inner thigh is the focus area where skin and fat are removed to provide a firmer appearance of the thigh. In a standard medial thigh lift, loose skin and fat are removed to reshape and tone the thigh with an incision that runs from the groin down to the knee. In cases of dramatic weight loss, the two incisions (in the groin and up and down the inner thigh) can be combined to maximize the skin excision.

How it Works
The Consultation
At RL Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, each initial patient consultation is different. Depending on your needs, desired treatments, areas of concern, and simply who you are as a patient, we will schedule you with an actual treatment provider to discuss your goals, budget, and more. During this appointment, we will go through before & after photos, your medical history, and any questions you might have. Only then can we make a recommendation for which procedures or treatments may be right for you and why. We will be sure to educate you on how the treatments work, including what to expect during and afterward.
We charge $100 for surgical consultations that last about 40 minutes. At the end of your consultation, you will leave our office in Vernon Hills with a thorough, personalized treatment plan. And when you’re ready, we’ll schedule your surgery for a day and time that works for your schedule.
The Procedure
In a thigh lift procedure, an incision is made in the inner thigh to remove excess skin and fat. In most cases, the incision will be made so that any scarring is minimally visible. In a limited incision medial thigh lift, the excess upper inner thigh skin is excised with a scar in the groin crease. In a standard medial thigh lift, the incision is made from the groin vertically down toward your knee. In patients with significant laxity of the inner thigh skin, a combination of these incisions can be used to maximize the skin excision. Regardless of the technique, it is also very common for the procedure to be combined with liposuction to better contour the thigh.
In our state of the art surgery center, you will meet with your care team including surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurses. Markings will be made to show you the approximate location of the final scar. When your procedure begins, you will be administered medications that sedate or anesthetize you while the surgery occurs. The surgeon will make an incision to remove excess fat and/or skin and perform liposuction as needed. The incision is closed using special surgical sutures in multiple layers to yield the best scar possible. This is an outpatient procedure, which means you will go home the same day of the surgery.
The Recovery
Immediately following the procedure, your incisions will be covered with bandages and special garments to deter excess swelling and for optimal healing. Although each patient is given individual instructions for recovery care, we require ample rest and minimal use of the arms in order to promote healing and comfort. Your surgeon will expect to see you within 24-48 hours following the surgery in order to ensure your healing is on track for the best results.
